The Opportunity

Our client is a well-established and highly respected engineering manufacturing business seeking an organised, proactive, and experienced Stores Supervisor to lead its stores and inventory function.

This is a key position within the business, responsible for ensuring the efficient receipt, storage, control, and distribution of materials, components, consumables, and tooling required to support manufacturing operations.

Working closely with Production, Purchasing, Planning, and Quality teams, you will play a vital role in maintaining stock accuracy, material traceability, and ensuring materials are available when needed to support operational performance.

 

Key Responsibilities

Stores Management & Inventory Control

  • Oversee the receipt, storage, issue, and movement of materials, components, consumables, and tooling.
  • Maintain accurate stock records and material traceability using ERP/MRP and stock control systems.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment requirements with purchasing teams.
  • Conduct regular cycle counts and stock audits to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies, implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Ensure all materials are correctly identified, stored, and protected to maintain quality standards.

Goods Inwards & Despatch

  • Manage incoming deliveries, ensuring goods received match purchase orders and delivery documentation.
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal departments regarding shortages, damaged goods, or non-conforming materials.
  • Process delivery notes and associated documentation accurately.
  • Coordinate the preparation, packing, and despatch of customer and supplier consignments.
  • Arrange courier and transport collections as required.

Production Support

  • Ensure production kits and materials are picked, prepared, and issued in line with manufacturing schedules.
  • Work closely with production teams to support operational requirements and minimise downtime.
  • Maintain effective communication regarding material availability and priorities.

Team Leadership

  • Provide day-to-day supervision and support to stores personnel.
  • Allocate workloads and prioritise activities to ensure smooth operation of the stores function.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, organisation, and safety.
  • Support the training and development of team members.

Continuous Improvement & Compliance

  • Identify opportunities to improve material flow, stock control processes, storage methods, and operational efficiency.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental procedures.
  • Maintain material handling equipment to ensure it remains safe and fit for purpose.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Undertake occasional deliveries and collections as required.
  • Provide support to other departments during busy periods.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties associated with the role.

 

About You

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience within a stores, warehouse, logistics, or inventory control environment.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • Good understanding of stock control procedures and material traceability.
  • Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong numerical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and perform effectively under pressure.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Previous supervisory or team leader experience.
  • Experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems.
  • Forklift Truck licence (training can be provided if required).
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.

Working Hours

  • Monday: 7:30am – 4:00pm
  • Tuesday: 7:30am – 4:30pm
  • Wednesday: 7:30am – 5:00pm
  • Thursday: 7:30am – 5:00pm
  • Friday: 7:30am – 12:00pm

The role includes a 10-minute morning break and a 30-minute lunch break each day.

Enhanced overtime rates apply for weekday and Saturday morning overtime, with additional hours available to support business requirements.
