Job Description
Are you technically minded, commercially aware and confident identifying engineering parts and components?
We’re recruiting for a Parts Technical Specialist to join an established engineering business, providing front-line technical and commercial support to customers and internal engineers.
This is a varied role combining technical parts identification, customer service, quotations and order processing. You’ll use technical drawings, exploded diagrams, parts books and digital catalogues to accurately identify components, source parts from suppliers and ensure customers receive the right products as quickly as possible.
The Role
As Parts Technical Specialist, you will:
- Accurately identify and source OEM and aftermarket spare parts and engineering components.
- Handle telephone and email enquiries from customers and internal engineers.
- Interpret technical drawings, exploded diagrams, service manuals, parts books and digital catalogues to identify the correct components and part numbers.
- Prepare accurate quotations and proactively follow up outstanding enquiries.
- Process trade and online orders accurately and efficiently.
- Liaise with suppliers regarding part numbers, pricing, stock availability and lead times.
- Work closely with warehouse, stores and purchasing teams to ensure orders are fulfilled promptly.
- Keep customers informed of order progress and resolve queries or discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate parts, quotation and order records using Protean and Excel.
- Assist with maintaining online product listings, pricing and availability.
- Support stock management, warranty claims and annual stocktakes.
- Help develop internal technical resources, including photographs, part references and cross-referencing information.
- Participate in relevant product and technical training.
What We’re Looking For
You’ll ideally have previous experience in a parts, technical sales, engineering support or technical customer service environment.
You should also have:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and an interest in engineering.
- The ability to interpret technical drawings and manufacturer documentation.
- Excellent attention to detail, particularly when identifying parts and processing quotations and orders.
- Confident and professional telephone and email communication skills.
- A customer-focused approach and the ability to explain technical information clearly.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple enquiries and priorities.
- Competence with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Confidence working with both traditional parts books and digital catalogues.
Experience using Protean or a similar order management/ERP system would be advantageous, as would previous experience within an engineering service department, parts desk, aftermarket operation or technical distribution environment.
About You
You’ll be technically curious with a natural problem-solving mindset. You enjoy getting to the bottom of a technical enquiry, finding the correct component and providing customers with an accurate and efficient service.
You’ll be comfortable working independently while also contributing to a close-knit team, and you’ll remain calm and organised when managing multiple enquiries.
Why Apply?
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with engineering parts or technical customer service experience who wants to develop their technical knowledge within a varied, customer-focused position.
If you have a mechanical background, enjoy identifying and sourcing components and are looking for a role that combines technical knowledge, customer interaction and commercial responsibility, we’d like to hear from you.
